FAMILY RETREAT - kids aged 4-12
August 24th -30th 2017 (UK Bank Holiday)
Where exactly is the retreat hosted?
Las Chimeneas, Mairena in the Alpujarras region of Andalucia, Spain.
What's unique about this location?
Imagine doing yoga in a valley with an entirely intact eco system because it's been an organic farm for over 15 years. Imagine basking on a sun-bathed terrace on the dramatic southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada with the land spread out before you and the sea in the distance. Imagine feeling for a week like time has stood still and you are transported back to an unspoilt village, where nobody is in any sort of rush. The location for this retreat is abundant and expansive. The outstanding natural beauty of the highest moutains in mainland Spain combined with plenty of sunshine encourages the entire body and mind to slow down and re-energise. Lying in Savasana on the yoga shala I genuinely felt like I was back in India doing yoga on sacred ground. Not surprisingly the Dalai Lama allegedly said this region of Spain is the place on earth that reminds him most of Tibet, both energetically and landscape-wise. Our hosts, Emma and David, are an enchanting couple from Yorkshire who've been living here for over 20 years, running their beautiful guesthouse and organic finca with love, attention to detail and great taste.
What is the accommodation like?
You will stay in an immaculately restored guesthouse. Each room is spacious and beautifully furnished with authentic antiques or other local gems. You stay in either the main Chimeneas house having access to a kitchen, two lounges, dining room, garden and terraces; or in one of the apartments in adjoining houses all within a stone's throw from each other. Meals are served in the Chimeneas restaurant. The yoga space and farm are a short walk away, nestled on a terrace, framed by centuries old olive trees. The property is ideal for mums and children to wander amongst almond, cherry, apple, pear, orange, mediar and apricot trees, picking the fruit that's in season. There is a small swimming pool (plunge pool) at the guesthouse which is extremely popular with the children (bring floaters as it's deep).
What are the closest airports?
Almeria and Granada are 90 minutes drive away. Malaga is a little further at 2 1/2 hours.
What age group is this retreat ideal for?
This retreat is aimed at mums with school-aged children and we can include activities like:
• Walking down to the organic farm where there is time for free-playing, foraging wild herbs, learning about the local vegetation and fruit, building a shelter, building a bamboo tipi, creating a nature mandala.
• Children's yoga
• Learning how to make village soap and cheese
• Exploring with a map and treasure hunt
• Learning how to cook tortilla and salad with the guesthouse chefs
• Trying weaving and spinning on traditional handed down looms
We can also organise excursions like Granada to see the famous Alhambra and a trip to the beaches of the Capo de Gata nature reserve or a walk to the 2000 metre high pass, only a 20-minute drive from Mairena.
How much is the retreat and what does it include?
€1350 Euros for mother and child for 6 nights. An additional child is €400 for under 3s, €350 for over 3s. An additional adult sharing room (husband, grandmother, friend or partner) is 750 Euros. The retreat includes 6 nights accommodation with ensuite, all daily meals and snacks, daily yoga, childcare and creative activity programme for the children.
What is not included?
Transfers (flights, taxis, car rentals) and excursions off property. We recommend renting a car as this will be the most flexible for you. We can put those arriving at similar times in touch with each other to share car rental. We can also arrange airport pick up. We recommend you arrive before a certain time so that the transfer can be shared and is affordable.
